For Immediate Release:

Irina Comer Announces Run for Wake County Commissioner, District 3

CARY, NC, JANUARY 19, 2022: Irina Comer, a Republican, has officially announced the launch of her campaign for Wake County  Commissioner.

A first-generation immigrant from Russia, a professional businesswoman of nearly 20 years, and a political outsider, Irina is        running for Commission to restore freedom to Wake County residents, to protect our children from bureaucratic overreach, to  reaffirm limited government, and to reduce taxes on working families. She believes that the people of Wake County deserve a    candidate committed to steadfastly promoting their interests, not just echoing political talking points. To quote Ronald Reagan, she believes that the government’s first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.

Born and raised in the former USSR, Irina came to the United States to pursue the American Dream. Having grown up in a culture of totalitarian control, central planning, and false promises of equality, Irina believes in self-determination, accountability, parental choice in education, freedom to pursue opportunity, accountability of elected officials, and fiscal responsibility. She rejects nanny state mandates and believes in individual and corporate responsibility.

As a small business owner, Irina understands the value of living within one’s means and making hard decisions with difficult tradeoffs. Strong leadership, navigating a diversity of viewpoints, is exactly what Wake County needs right now, with residents’ concerns represented faithfully and thoughtfully. People want a government that works for them and with them, not against them.

Wake County has a qualified, hardworking, and rapidly growing population. Wake County government requires a broadly distributed, sustainable tax base that provides for the needs of its residents without choking working class families. Irina is committed to facilitating sustainable economic growth that benefits current residents as much as new residents, and working families as much as developers. Soaring housing values should not lead to soaring taxes.

As a working mother, Irina is focused on high-quality education. The current masking and quarantine policies are detrimental to the early development and success of children in Wake County schools. Irina believes parents should be empowered to make choices as to how to best prepare their children for success in the real world.

Irina is committed to meeting the needs of her neighbors and fellow citizens, and getting things done. She is a tireless leader, a strong team player, and a zealous advocate. A graduate of NYU Stern School of Business, she lives in Cary, NC with her husband, their two sons, and their two chocolate labs. She owns and operates her own business brokerage company helping small businesses thrive in the current economy. She asks for your vote and your help. It is time we put a strong Conservative in Wake County Government!

Irina Comer

I recently sat down for an interview with Wake GOP Chairwoman Donna Williams.  We talked about the role of the Wake County Board of Commissioners, its importance to everyday residents, my background and financial experience, and my campaign for Wake County Commissioner.

Irina Comer spoke against a 132% raise of Wake County Commissioners compensation at the June 6th Budget hearing.

That proposal was not only incredibly imprudent as a fiscal matter, it is also remarkably tone deaf at a time when real wages all over the state are declining in the face of the worst inflation in 40 years. Eventually, they gave themselves "only" a 64% raise from $28k to a little less than $47k. However, they increased property taxes to an even higher level than was originally proposed.

Irina Comer presented her comments on the Wake County Proposed Budget at a public hearing held on May 16, 2022.

The cost of living in Wake County is rising, real wages are falling because pay increases cannot keep pace with the highest inflation in 40 years, the costs of groceries and gas have skyrocketed, the cost of housing has grown faster than weeds in your yard, and commissioner's brilliant solution is to raise property tax rates by 2.5%, from 60 cents to 61.5 cents per each $100 of valuation, and the issue will only get worse in a couple of years when properties are reassessed, and increased property values are taken into account.

Electing Wake County Commissioners "at large" instead of by voters in each district creates a situation where the commissioners are not responsive to their districts, but rather to Raleigh voters who dominate the electorate. We believe this prevents the one person one vote requirement and is unfair to voters in the Wake suburbs. It's time to take a look at this process and make voting fair and hold commissioners accountable to the constituents in their districts!

We held a rally on March 9, 2022. Watch Irina's speech at the Board

of Commissioners meeting on that day.

Irina's speech at the Unmask Our Kids rally on February 15, 2022.

Do not forget what they did to our kids. Vote them all out. Every single one of them! School boards who voted for this lunacy and every other elected official who became complicit by being silent.
